Question Number 1: How many
Laws of Thermodynamics are there?
Answer: There are three laws of the thermodynamics.
First Law: Energy can be neither created nor destroyed. It can only change forms. In any process in an isolated system, the total energy remains the same.
Second Law: When two isolated systems in separate but nearby regions of space, each in thermodynamic equilibrium in itself, but not in equilibrium with each other at first, are at some time allowed to interact, breaking the isolation that separates the two systems, and they exchange matter or energy, they will eventually reach a mutual thermodynamic equilibrium.

Third Law: As temperature approaches
absolute zero, the entropy of a system approaches a minimum.
Question Number 2: What is the function
of a Boiler? Briefly explain the Boiler
mounting, and name its classifications?
Answer: A Boiler supplies dry and saturated
steam at the required pressure.
A particular apparatus or equipment is placed
on the boiler to improve its safety, maintenance convenience and steam supply,
is known as Boiler mounting. Following are the different Boiler mountings,
- Water level
- Supply valves
- Pressure gauge
- Stop valve
- Feed check valve
- Blow off cock
- Fusible plugs etc
Question Number 3: What
are boiler accessories? Explain each accessories in detail?
Answer:
Boiler accessories are
devices which are not compulsory to be attached to it but if we use them it
increases efficiency and overall performance.
Some accessories are
listed below:-
·
Feed water pump
·
Pre-heater
·
Super-heater
·
Economizer
Question
Number 4: What is surface tension?
Answer:
Surface tension is measured as the energy
required increasing the surface area of a liquid by a unit of area. The surface
tension of a liquid results from an imbalance of inter molecular attractive
forces, the cohesive forces between molecules.
